About Me

Hello Friends,

My name is Brian Souders and I am a local Sacramento harmonica player. I created SacTown Blues in order to start documenting my journey as I grow as a professional musician. I have been studying the harmonica for 17 years now. I play many different genres and have had the opportunity to play and record with many different bands.  I am 100% self taught and learned all that I know by ear and learning from other professionals.

I have recently taken on many different musical projects, which is partly what inspired me to create this web site. Over the past two years I have played with Black Cat Bone, a local classic blues band out of Davis, California. We played shows around the Sacramento and Davis area every weekend for 2 straight years. From what I can count we had over 75 shows together before the band when it’s separate ways.

I am currently recording a CD with a fantastic piano player named Scott Evans out of the South Bay. His classic piano and vocals mixed with my “not so classical” blues gives our music a unique energy that is hard to find. We call ourselves Blue Note Saint.

In my spare time I am developing my skills as a one man band incorporating loop stations, effects pedals, and multiple microphones to create a very unique style of street music that is all my own. I also enjoy fishing, and long distance running.

I teach basic blues harmonica lessons privately throughout the week to various folks in my community. I love to give back to the community since I have a full time job as life insurance and annuity broker. Teaching really helps me to get out of the office and share with others. When I feel the need to go play music on the street, I go! When I walk into a blues bar in order to seek out a sound I haven’t heard before, I usually find it. There are so many untold stories of local blues musicians in Northern California and so many unknown spots to hear them. I created this virtual space in June of 2010 to tell you my perspective and document my findings.

These are my stories, these are my SacTownBlues!
